Maybe he catches her off-guard with a thrust, maybe he doesn't. Either way, it's a good workout, and as long as she's enjoying herself, so is he. Trying to adapt someone else's fighting style into his own carries its own challenges, and there's an element of clumsiness to it — but he knows to work on that now, so if there's ever a next time, he'll be better at it. It's a big change for someone who's never been professionally trained, who has always had to rely on his own strength and let it get him this far, but his pride has never gotten in the way before in him getting better at something.
