There's no sign of Ciri when he'd stopped by the inn to gather a few more things to head about his day as usual. Something probably for the best, since he's not fond of the idea of having this conversation where it can be overheard for multiple reasons, and it's while completing his normal day-to-day job Claude realizes there's a solution to that.
Well - a partial solution. But it's still better than waiting any longer, so before long Ciri will catch sight of mostly neat script with an important message. ]
Ciri - you should know the Free Cities has questions about how we crossed the ravine. On my way to work this morning I got pulled in for a friendly little chat. The interviewer mentioned she's planning on talking to others on the supply run at some point.
To be clear, I didn't say anything to them. But that doesn't mean they won't try asking what they did in other ways hoping one of us will say something different.

If the goal is for our stories to align, I'll need to know what you told them.
[ Ciri isn't so worried about them finding out about her short-distance portaling abilities if they press, if it becomes more dangerous to lie and keep it from them. But she definitely prefers the knowledge to stay out of the military hands so they won't try to push her for more assistance. She's helped in Libertas; she helped with the supply run. But those were efforts on her part to do something good for the regular people who are suffering because of Thorne's actions -- and now will probably suffer further due to the Free Cities' retaliation.
They have a fine line to walk here. Claude, at least, seems aware. ]

My conversation with them started with them asking why I chose to hang back with the troops rather than assist with the ravine, and then they asked how me to describe how we crossed it. I said I stayed back to keep morale up since the soldiers weren't happy about stopping, and that we just so happened to fell some trees the length of the ravine to cross in a great stroke of luck.
Very convenient those trees were there - that was all. No mention of anything else from me and it'll stay that way.

And considering you were with the soldiers, it makes sense that you might not have seen everything, if more details come to light later, after all.
Have you warned Jesper?

[ Not really his job these days given that he's not a commander of anything and the Summoned are more than capable of handling themselves, but old habits die hard and hence the slight correction. Whatever those who might be questioned about their abilities end up wanting to do, he'll support. That's their choice to make and one he feels shouldn't be accidentally made for them by sharing things better left unsaid. ]
I haven't yet, but I will be soon. I was hoping to see if I could catch both of you in person before it occurred to me it'd be better to share this now in case those follow ups happen sooner than implied. I'll make sure Jesper knows this happened, too.
